I Should Have

I should’ve written the things we talked about.
I’m not certain that I’ll remember them.

I should’ve captured your enchanting voice.
I’m not so sure I’ll ever hear you sing again.

I should’ve drawn a portrait of you and your smile.
I may have to remind myself of what you look like from time to time.

I should’ve made you stay.
I might not find you when I need a friend.

I should have.

But I didn’t.

Because I’m certain
That I’ll always remember the conversations we had.

Because I’m sure
That your voice will forever sound as sweet as now.

Because it’s much better to just go see you and make you smile
than to look at a portrait.

Because if ever I find myself in need of a friend,
I know you’ll always be there.
